About
GSW has been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Wellington since 2000, and in 2026 moved into a light, air-conditioned space on Level 3 at 144 Tory Street after fourteen years in College Street. The school is run by Geoff Grant, who first trained with John Will in Geelong in 1995 and was awarded his BJJ black belt in 2007, and it trains under the Will/Machado BJJ Australasia banner. In that time the club has produced national champions and more than a dozen black belts. Classes suit complete beginners as much as experienced grapplers, and there is a separate Sunday programme for kids aged seven and up. GSW is open that it is not a competition-focused school, so competing is entirely optional.
