About the Walk

The Dry Creek Waterfall track starts near the Dry Creek entrance off State Highway 2 and follows the creek bed upstream through regenerating native bush. The route involves repeated crossings of the stream, with the creek bed serving as the path in sections, creating an adventurous short outing within the larger Belmont Regional Park.

The waterfall at the head of the valley is a 4-metre horsetail feature that flows best after rain. The surrounding gorge provides a secluded bush setting despite the park’s proximity to urban areas in the Hutt Valley.

The name Dry Creek reflects the stream’s tendency to reduce to a trickle during summer and dry periods. Visitors should check conditions and prepare for wet feet, as the track is not suitable for those unwilling to wade.

Access and Facilities

The Dry Creek entrance provides parking, toilets and access to the waterfall track as well as the campground. The park gate operates on seasonal hours, and dogs must remain on lead in the valley area. Basic facilities support day visits and camping.
